Of course, picking a World Series MVP will depend largely on what team wins the series.

The Astros have a 3-2 edge with the series shifting back to Houston, although this series has been so unpredictable that the Phillies can’t be ruled out from winning the next two games and finishing off their surprising postseason run.

Plus, the candidates still have two more games to state their case.

With that said, let’s look at the current World Series MVP odds and offer our World Series MVP predictions for the 2022 Fall Classic.

Jeremy Pena, +110

Even though he’s not having one of the best World Series performances of all time, Pena is the clear frontrunner for World Series MVP.

Imagine placing that bet on the rookie before the season when Jeremy Pena was a complete unknown.

Nevertheless, Carlos Correa’s replacement has filled the shoes of his predecessor far better than expected. In five World Series games, he’s batting .381 with two doubles, a home run, and three RBIs. More importantly, his hits always seem to happen in big situations and swing the momentum of the game in Houston’s favor.

With the Astros winning Games 4 and 5 with Pena going 5 for 9 over those two games, Pena would be the obvious choice right now, especially if the Astros can close out the series in Game 6.

Bryce Harper, +1000

If the Phillies come back to win the World Series, it’ll likely be Bryce Harper leading the way. More importantly, he’d be the obvious choice to be MVP. Harper has been heavily involved in Philadelphia’s two wins in this series and might be having the best postseason of any player on either of these teams.

Of course, betting on Harper to win MVP only makes sense if the Phillies come back to win the series and it’s him doing most of the damage.

Framber Valdez, +1000

If the Astros win Game 6 to close out the series, the value of Framber Valdez being MVP could make him worth the risk. The lefty pitched a gem in Game 2, allowing just one run on four hits over 6.1 innings while striking out nine.

He was the winning pitcher in a game the Astros need to have in order to avoid falling behind 2-0. If he has a similar performance in Game 6 and ends up being the winning pitcher in two of Houston’s four wins, he’ll have a strong argument for winning MVP honors.

Just keep in mind that this assumes the Phillies won’t have more success against Valdez the second time they see him in a week and that Valdez has another dominant performance without Houston’s big bats doing anything to supplant him for MVP honors.

Alex Bregman, +1100

Alex Bregman wouldn’t be the obvious MVP pick right now, but he’s one or two great games away from being a serious MVP contender. He’s batting just .222 in the World Series, although Bregman has three doubles, a home run, and three RBIs.

He’s Houston’s co-leader in RBIs during the postseason and is perfectly positioned in the lineup to do damage. If it’s Bregman and not Pena coming up with the big hits in the game that the Astros clinch the series (assuming they do), he could surpass Pena as the MVP choice.

Kyle Schwarber, +1400

Kyle Schwarber was the home run king in the National League during the regular season and he could have that title again in the World Series. He’s the only Philadelphia hitter to hit multiple homers during the series, going long in Games 3 and 5.

At this point, Schwarber might be ahead of Harper on the list of hitters the Astros most fear. Obviously, the Phillies will need to turn the series around and win Games 6 and 7 for Schwarber to have a chance to win MVP. But if the Phillies win the next two games with Schwarber hitting one or two clutch home runs, he will quickly jump to the top of the list of MVP candidates.

Cristian Javier, +1600

Cristian Javier was brilliant in his Game 4 start, throwing the first six innings of a combined no-hitter while striking out nine. That surely gives him a path to win MVP, although he’s a long shot.

The Astros would have to lose Game 6 and then start Javier on short rest in Game 7 over Lance McCullers, who would be on regular rest but struggled in Game 3 because he was likely tipping his pitches.

If Javier gets the call in Game 7 and has another dominant performance over the Phillies to win his second game of the series, he’ll be the clear MVP choice. The caveat is that there are a lot of variables in that scenario outside of Javier’s control.

Best Bet

At this point, Valdez is the most valuable bet for World Series MVP. Pena is the obvious choice, but with such short odds, he doesn’t have that much value, especially considering how unpredictable this series has been.

As mentioned, if Bregman has a big game in the clinching game, he could surpass Pena as the MVP choice. Meanwhile, we know that Valdez will start Game 6 with the opportunity to put the Phillies away. If he’s able to seize that opportunity, Valdez will be the best bet for the 2022 World Series MVP.
