Rohit Sharma not available for second test against Bangladesh | BANvIND

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a setback for Indian team, regular test captain Rohit Sharma is unlikely to b available for the upcoming second test match against Bangladesh starting at the Sher e Bangla Stadium in Mirpur from December 22. Rohit was supposed to travel to Dhaka on Sunday. Instead, he will take rest and recover from the injury. He will return for the home series against Sri Lanka starting January 3. Meanwhile, KL Rahul will continue to lead in the 2nd Test in the absence of Rohit. The visitors are leading the two-test series 1-0 after the win in first test by 188 runs.

Rahul in his post-match conference on Sunday did say that he was not aware of Rohit’s availability. It is learnt Rohit’s thumb injury has not completely healed. He injured his right thumb while trying to take a catch in the slips during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh.

After getting an update from BCCI medical team, the team management in Bangladesh has said no to his inclusion in the 2nd Test.

If he hurts his thumb again, the Indian captain may miss the two upcoming series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. He could also be doubtful for the Australia series which is even more important in the context of World Test Championship.

India A and Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran is already in Bangladesh as the replacement for Rohit.
