Nick Kyrgios on upcoming Adelaide debut: Hope I can enjoy success

Nick Kyrgios says he has heard only positive things about the Adelaide International as he is looking forward to preparing in Adelaide for the Australian Open.

Kyrgios, 27, will be making his Adelaide debut in January.

This January, Adelaide is set to host ATP 250 events in back-to-back weeks.

Kyrgios won't be competing in Adelaide 1, but he is set to play Adelaide 2 - which is scheduled to kick off on 09 January.

This year, Kyrgios' close friend Thanasi Kokkinakis won Adelaide.

Now, Kyrgios is hoping to also enjoy success at the turnament.

“I have heard good things about the tournament and the upgraded venue at The Drive. I am looking forward to playing in Adelaide. My good friend, Thanasi, had a great run last year in front of his home crowd and I hope I can enjoy the same success and support in January," Kyrgios said of playing in Adelaide.

The Adelaide tournament excited about hosting Kyrgios

This year, Kyrgios made his first Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon.

Kyrgios enjoyed a great 2022 season and he is the Australian player that enters the Australian Summer with the biggest expectations.

With that being said, Adelaide tournament director Alistar MacDonald is excited about giving Adelaide tennis fans a chance to see Kyrgios in action.

“This is a great opportunity for Australian tennis fans to see Nick take to the court at The Drive. We all remember the doubles final at the Australian Open earlier this year where he and Kokkinakis took victory – it is not every day you can witness these Aussie champions play at home. We are urging tennis fans to secure their tickets to be a part of the crowd and atmosphere this summer, cheering on one of the strongest fields we’ve seen here in Adelaide at our Festival of Tennis with strong competition on-court and amazing entertainment off the court," MacDonald said of Kyrgios signing up to play Adelaide.
