Jessica Pegula reacts to finishing 0-6 in WTA Finals debut

World No 3 Jessica Pegula acknowledged that highs and lows are a part of the game as she suggested that a big number of matches caught up with her at the WTA Finals.

Pegula, 28, captured her first WTA 1000 title in Guadalajara just a week before the WTA Finals.

Then at the prestigious season-ending tournament, Pegula went 0-6 - she suffered three defeats in the singles event and also went 0-3 with Cori Gauff in the doubles event.

On Friday, Pegula suffered a 6-3 7-5 defeat to Aryna Sabalenka in her singles group stage finale.

After losing in the singles, Pegula returned to the court as she and Gauff were beaten 6-2 6-1 by Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.

"It's tough but that's tennis. You have one good week, and then you're right back at it the next. There's a lot of really high highs & low lows. You end the year well and then I come here, lose all my matches. This is the same [amount of losses I've had] in like 3 months," Pegula told WTA Insider.

Pegula indicated she was exhausted, fatigued

Pegula, who was one of the most consistent players throughout the entire season, was clearly exhausted and fatigued at the WTA Finals.

However, she had no regrets over playing in the singles and doubles.

“Of course I don’t regret playing both. We’re used to playing both, but at the end of the year -- I don’t know about her -- but I think it caught up with me. I keep telling myself that I had a great year. I don’t think I’ve lost this many matches in the past three months," Pegula said.

For Pegula, her season still isn't over as she is set to represent the United States at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals next week.Â
