Some tough news for the Washington Capitals broke on Tuesday afternoon, as forward Connor Brown is expected to miss 6-8 months after undergoing successful surgery to repair his torn ACL.

Brown, 28, suffered the injury on Oct. 17 in a game against the Vancouver Canucks. While a return to the 2022-23 season hasnât been ruled it, it seems very unlikely, though there is a chance he may be able to return for the Stanley Cup Playoffs should the Capitals qualify.

This injury is a very frustrating one for Brown, who was looking to impress with his new club after being acquired in a trade from the Ottawa Senators this offseason. Perhaps even worse is the fact that he is currently in a contract year, and had a chance to earn himself a relatively big deal had he put up good numbers this season.
The injury is a devastating one from a team perspective as well, as Brownâs physical edge and secondary scoring was expected to be a big boost for the Capitals. Perhaps the one positive that can come out of this is that they will now have $3.6 million they can put on long-term injured reserve, freeing up some significant money to perhaps target a similar player in a trade. Overall, the start to the 2022-23 season for the Capitals has been so-so at best. Through 10 games, they own a 5-4-1 record, which has them sitting fifth in the Metropolitan Division. It is by no means an ideal start, though one that may have been somewhat expected given the injuries they are currently dealing with.
Other injured Caps feature names such as Tom Wilson and Nicklas Backstrom, both of whom have yet to play in 2022-23. While there is plenty of season remaining, this is a team that could find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture.
