5-Star Recruit Cyrus Mahjoob Verbally Commits to University of Michigan

Rockville, MD native Cyrus Mahjoob has decided where the next chapter in his tennis journey will take him.

The JTCC High Performance player and five-star recruit has verbally committed to play Division I tennis for the University of Michigan.

The 17-year-old began training at JTCC in 2013 and after progressing through the JTCC pathway, is currently enrolled in the JTCC School full-time program. Following his outstanding junior year, Mahjoob became a FILA-sponsored player in 2021.

Upon graduating in 2023 from JTCC, Mahjoob will begin his collegiate career in the fall. He will follow in the footsteps of JTCC alumnus Andrew Fenty, the 2020 Big Ten Player of the Year, who has been a star for the University of  Michigan.

“I am beyond excited to be a Wolverine,” Mahjoob said enthusiastically. “I visited the campus in September and immediately felt like I was part of the Michigan family. The atmosphere and energy is unreal, and it is a place that can push me both on and off the tennis court.”

The Wolverines wrapped up a historic season in 2022 that included their first Big Ten Tournament title with a 4-2 victory over powerhouse Ohio State and an appearance in the NCAA Championships, where the team reached the quarterfinals.

“At JTCC, we are big fans of the Michigan tennis program. JTCC alumnus Andrew Fenty is playing his fifth year now, and we are thrilled that Cyrus will be there for the next four,” JTCC President Vesa Ponkka said. “Michigan has outstanding academics and coaches, and Cyrus made a great choice. He will fit the team extremely well.”
