2023 Top 10 Ballon d'Or power rankings

The Ballon d'Or 2023 will take place next year and will be awarded to the best footballer in the 2022-23 season. It will be a unique prize this time because of a World Cup during the season which obviously will be a huge factor in determining the winner.Quite a few things have changed since the last time we've done the ranking. Here's what, in our opinion, the top 10 looks like at the moment.1. Lionel MessiLeo Messi has just won the World Cup but don't forget he's also having a stellar second season at PSG. He has 12 goals and 14 assists in 19 games, including 4+4 in the Champions League.2. Kylian MbappeThe villain that challenges Messi is his teammate Kylian Mbappe. Had France been luckier in the penalty shootout, Mbappe would be the top contender. He's scored 19 goals and assisted 5 in 20 games for PSG this term. In 99% of cases, nothing would beat a hat-trick in the World Cup final but sadly for Mbappe, Messi actually won it and was just as good in that game.3. Erling HaalandErling Haaland wasn't in Qatar but let's not forget that he'd been on an amazing run before the World Cup break, scoring 29 and assisting 4 in just 24 games for Man City. Here's what the rest of the top 10 looks for us:4. Neymar. The Brazilian is incredible with PSG and was good but unlucky for Brazil at the World Cup.5. Luka Modric. The Croatian is the third best player at the World Cup and his influence in Madrid is ever strong - and that's at the age of 37!6. Fede Valverde. Uruguay disappointed in Qatar but Fede is arguably Real Madrid's finest player this term.7. Enzo Fernandez. Not only is he the best young player at the World Cup, he's also having a superb season with Benfica who are clear at the top in the Portuguese league and beat PSG to the top spot of their Champions League group.8. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia . The Georgian is like Enzo Fernandez but without a World Cup appearance. His Napoli are top of Serie A and they also beat Liveprool to the top spot in the Champions League.9. Josko Gvardiol. Perhaps the only moment of weakness the world's most expensive centre-back in the waiting has had this season was against Leo Messi in the World Cup semifinal. But there's a reason why Messi is top of this ranking.10. Antoine Griezmann. Antoine is a forward, a midfielder, a defensive midfielder - he's the engine of that France team. Not as good with Atletico but he's just been too good in Qatar.
